Description
A C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply Exclusive: the "Disc-o-Tone" pre-wired disk piezo harness for cigar box guitars and more! Includes a 2-page how-to-install guide written by C. B. Gitty himself, to help guide you through getting this great little harness installed in your instrument! Choose from either the standard version, which includes a volume control, or the "Junior" version that goes straight to the output jack for a simpler install.
This is a great pre-wired piezo pickup, perfect for mounting in your cigar box guitar! The piezo disk is carefully embedded in the red oak disk with a cushioning adhesive, which helps insulate and tone down the high-end of the piezo disk to reduce feedback and give you a warm, mellow tone. The jack is a premium Neutrik long-shaft mono jack, great for getting through thicker cigar box walls (though some thinning on the inside of the box may be necessary with thicker-walled boxes). The standard version of the circuit also includes a high-quality 500kohm Bourns audio-taper volume potentiometer, so you can control the level of your output while playing. Each of the leads is a full one foot in length, so you'll have plenty of wire to put stuff where you want! The pickup comes with a piece of high-strength double-sided adhesive tape for mounting, though you may want to take additional steps to secure it if you think your CBG will be knocked around a lot.
Every harness is carefully tested in the C. B. Gitty shop before being packaged and shipped to you. There have been a lot of folks making this kind of wood-embedded piezo pickup harnesses over the years... give ours a try and find out more and more CBG builders are saying: Make mine a Gitty!

On the back I placed the original fender badges, the strap is a Couch Guitar Straps that matches what was in the car, and the keys attached are original to my car.

For CBG NIN, it was just pretty straight forward in assembly and wiring. I had an old motorcycle license plate and knew I wanted to incorporate it into a CBG. I used a wood burning set to mark the fret lines. The sound holes are just conduit caps with holes drilled into them> I'm very happy with the way it sounds and plays.

This was a fun project I ended up doing with my son. He picked this box out of a bunch I picked up at the local cigar shop. He thought it would be neat to have the neck painted the same color as the box instead of stain and keep the color pattern with the fret markers and headstock. It's a heavy box but it turned out beautiful and sounds great.

I built these and both of them were donated and auctioned off to raise money to help pay for this project. I make my own necks and fretboards. I replaced the top of the cigar boxs with a new hand-carved cover. These two, I hand-carved into some wormy oak slabs I had laying around.

I wasn’t comfortable with the size of the box as I usually play concert ukuleles, so I swapped the body for one made from part of a drum shell. I always like those old C. B. Gitty round bodies with the advertising discs. The biggest problem was finding the right string set to span C3 to A4. I broke several A strings in the process. I now using a tenor banjo set with a .009 A. Ok so far.
