Choosing Strings for your Cigar Box Guitar

34-001-01-image-1.jpgAt the Southbound String Company, we are dedicated to offering cigar box guitar and other handmade/homemade instrument builders a wide variety of string sets to choose from for their special builds. Unfortunately, offering a wide variety can make it hard for folks who just want to quickly find the specific set they want.

This guide will make that easier, by offering a clear breakdown of all the string sets we offer. Our recommended/favorite sets for each tuning are shown in green.

We will present this in “Outline Form” to that you can quickly skip to the section that has what you need. There are four pieces of information you’ll need to know:

  • How many strings on your guitar (3 or 4)
  • Intended tuning (Open G, Open D, etc)
  • Acoustic (Phosphor Bronze) or Electric (Nickel-wound) strings
  • String Gauge Weight
