Description

We are proud to offer these hardwood laser-cut cigar box guitar bridge blanks, designed and made in our own C. B. Gitty workshops. We offer four different styles/shapes in a variety of wood options - these are made from solid hardwood panels around 1/4" thick, not plywood. We carefully sand a beveled point onto the top of each one, to make it easier to prepare for string notching, but any other sanding or smoothing is up to you. Because these are laser-cut parts, the cut edges will have some darkening, which can either be sanded off or left as desired.

Below is an overview of the 4 styles/shapes we offer. You can see images of the different styles and wood varieties in the listing photos.

  • Style 1 - "Small Banjo" - this is a lower-profile bridge, about 2 3/8" long x 7/16" in height. These make great cigar box guitar bridges on builds where you need a lower bridge (such as when you have a fretted neck without a glued-on fretboard), and of course then can be filed or sanded to be even lower-profile if desired. We have been selling this design for years and have used many of them on our in-house builds, and they work great.
  • Style 2 - "Large Banjo" - this is a larger banjo-style bridge, often seen on 5-string banjos. They are 3" wide by 5/8" tall, and have the classic "T-slot_ style cutouts. These are good for cigar box guitars where you have a glued-on fretboard, and need a little higher bridge to compensate.
  • Style 3 - Kay-style - these are modeled after the style of bridges found on vintage Kay and Stella guitars, with a wide flat base and simple scalloped ends. These bridges are just under 4" long x about 9/16" tall.
  • Style 4 - Flying Kay - A variation on the classic Kay design, these have an eliptical cutout that forms two feet on either end of the bridge. This gives it an elegant look and also decreases the surface area of the bridge touching the soundboard, which could help squeeze a little extra volume and tone out of a cigar box. Aside from the cutout portion, the dimensions are the same as Style 3 above.
