Description

These necks are hand-made in the C. B. Gitty workshops in the state of New Hampshire, USA, and we work hard to make sure they are a high-quality product! We use these same necks on our own cigar box guitars and other instruments we build. Select from the available options to customize the perfect neck to match your cigar box guitars.

These necks are roughly 36" long, 1 1/2" wide and approximately 3/4" thick (some may be slightly thicker). They include an angled headstock and whatever other options you choose. If you choose the extended headstock option, the total width of the headstock will be in the range of 3 3/8". If you choose the fretted option, your neck will come with high-quality medium/medium nickel-silver fret wire that has been end-dressed and should be ready for use, though of course you can always smooth things down even more if you prefer.

Please note that the exact appearance of each neck will vary depending on individual grain patterns and character of the lumber used. Not all neck options are available in all wood varieties. These have to be shipped via Priority Mail internationally so unfortunately the cost can be quite high. Contact us for quantity discounts or custom orders (min. quantity of 5 identical necks on any custom order).

PLEASE NOTE: The total length of the ROSEWOOD necks may be slightly shorter than stated above, at around 34 3/4-inches.

Also be sure to check out our cigar box guitar fretboards, which work great with the unfretted versions of these necks!

More Info About our CBG Necks:

  • Fretted and slotted necks are based on a 25 inch scale length. This means that the intended distance from the NUT to the BRIDGE on the instrument should end up as exactly 25 inches. There are many other scale lengths used on various instruments, but we chose 25" as a nice middle-of-the-road standard. Fretted necks come with 17 frets installed.
  • Scarf jointed necks such as ours will show different grain patterns on the headstock. We cut our scarf joints so that the visible portion of the joint is halfway up the headstock, instead of on the neck. This means that there will be two noticably different grain patterns on the headstock. If you choose a neck with headstock extensions, then the extensions will also have differing grain patterns. This is just the nature of gluing pieces of wood together to form a larger whole. If you want a consistent look to the headstock, we recommend gluing on a veneer that will cover up the underlying wood grain.
  • Exact look will vary from neck to neck. We are dealing with natural wood here, which can vary fairly widely in terms of coloration, grain and occlusions across various species. We do our best to select nice-looking necks, often with interesting grain/occlusion features, but we never ship out a neck that we wouldn't be happy to use on one of our own guitars.
  • The neck may have a bit of back-bow. We do not use boards with heavy bowing, but we do use boards with some light bowing. When we do, we make sure to always cut the headstock such that the headstock is bowed back instead of forward. This can actually be a good feature, since once the strings are on and tuned to pitch, the neck will be more resilient to the string tension. Some master guitar makers such as the Martin factory have been known to build necks with some built-in back bow, for this very reason.
  • You may need to cut the neck down a bit to match your guitar. We keep the necks a bit longer than is generally used, to make them more versatile. Feel free to cut some off of the bottom to help meet your needs.
  • We do not pre-drill tuner holes or pre-cut box recesses. These are neck "blanks" that will need to be milled/drilled to meet the needs of your instrument. The headstocks will need to be filed/sanded thinner to 9/16" or 5/8" to work with most standard guitar tuners.
