DIY Guitars Without Cigar Boxes

Here are some fantastic examples of guitars that can be built with C. B. Gitty box kits (and a handful of other C. B. Gitty parts, to boot!)

First, we have two stunning builds by Christopher C.

Christopher finished the boxes to have a sunburst effect and capped each guitar with gold hardware, making for visually stunning builds... all without a cigar box.

Oh, did I mention these are also his first guitars!

Wrote Christopher about his builds, "My first two builds! Pretty much every part is from C. B. Gitty."

Told you his guitars were stunning.

Really, just gorgeous work out of you, Christopher.

Next, we have a real fireball built from our "Tin Pan Alley" kit by Kale F. over at Poorness Studios.

Kale was also kind enough to share some pictures of how he customized his box, adding to how unique this build really is... no cigar box required!

"I recently completed a Tin Pan Alley kit" wrote Kale. "It was my first C. B. Gitty kit. I was very impressed with the quality of the parts and how they went together. I decided I wanted to paint hot rod flames on it and I'm really pleased with the result. I also decided to add electronics so I could plug it in."

Even without a cigar box, Kale built himself a smokin' hot guitar using a C. B. Gitty kit, tailor-made to his imagination.

Good on ya, Kale!

Still not convinced that your next guitar would be fantastic when made with a C. B. Gitty box kit? Here's a killer resonator made from one of our box kits by Vern H.

Wrote Vern, "I like the idea of the "Tin Pan Alley" reso kit but wanted something a little extra, so I gathered up all the parts and made my own custom 3-string guitar using mostly C. B. Gitty parts."

While he didn't reveal his methods, the way Vern finished his C. B. Gitty box kit really brought out the wood grain, making for a real looker.

The box Vern used is the perfect size for a reso-guitar, providing sufficient depth to install a reso cone and plenty of surface area for soundholes, a pickup and volume, and tone controls.

All-around good work, right here, and not a cigar box to be seen.

Vern did well to add a surface-mount magnetic pickup to his custom box kit axe.

No Cigar Box? No Problem.

You needn't restrict yourself only to cigar boxes that you can find in a dark smoke shop corner.

Or by blindly buying boxes of unknown size or quality from random online dealers.

In fact, rather than

  • going along with a less-than-ideal size cigar box
  • stressing about where to find cigar boxes
  • or settling on someone else's idea of what looks good

it's time to try building your own box with a C. B. Gitty box kit.
